CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University men's lacrosse team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Post University 10-5 in a non-conference game.
The Cougars improve to 2-1, while the Eagles drop to 0-1.
The teams traded goals in the opening quarter as graduate
Chris Snow (Ledgewood, N.J.) gave the Cougars the lead with a goal at the 10:12 mark of the opening quarter. The Eagles answered two minutes later to even the score at 1-1.
Sophomore
Michael Brown (Glenolden, Pa.) put the Cougars back in front with a goal early in the second quarter. The Eagles countered with two goals later in the quarter to pull ahead 3-2.
Caldwell closed the half with a pair of goals to take a halftime lead. Freshman
Jason Staudte (Sound Beach, N.Y.) netted the tying goal with 3:06 remaining in the second quarter, while sophomore
Owen Healey (Washington, N.J.) gave the Cougars a 4-3 lead at the break.
Snow netted his second of the game with a tally early in the third quarter for a 5-3 lead. Post answered less than a minute later to close the gap to 5-4.
The Cougars broke the game open with four unanswered goals Staudte tallied his second of the game at the 10:03 mark. Freshman
Gage Herzog (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) added a goal at the 9:05 mark, while Healey scored his second goal of the game with 5:14 left in the quarter.
Sophomore
Kevin Albright (Mays Landing, N.J.) closed the run with a goal at the 2:02 mark and tallied a second goal late in the fourth quarter.
Junior
Wayne Safreed (Mt. Arlington, N.J.) played all 60 minutes and recorded 14 saves in the win.
The Cougars compete in the program's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game as they host Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, April 10 at 1 pm at Essex Valley Field in West Caldwell.
