POMONA, N.Y.- The Caldwell University baseball team scored 24 runs and collected 20 hits in a game two win as the Cougars earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division doubleheader split against Dominican College.

The Chargers won the opener 26-1 but the Cougars took the nightcap 24-9 to earn the split and win the season series 2-1.

The Cougars move to 9-13 overall and 7-11 in the CACC, while the Chargers stand at 14-11 and 7-9 in conference play.

Caldwell was limited to one hit in the opener as Dominican scored runs in each of their first five at-bats. The Cougars lone hit also accounted for the only run of the game as junior
Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) blasted a solo homerun in the fifth inning.

In the nightcap, the Cougars took the early lead as graduate
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) scored on a wild pitch in the opening inning. Caldwell added to their lead in the third as they loaded the bases. Graduate
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) was hit by a pitch to force in a run for a 2-0 lead.

Caldwell added two runs in the fourth as March drove in one run with a ground out, while graduate
Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) singled in a run for a 4-0 lead. The Chargers got on the board in the fourth as they scored a run to close the gap to 4-1.

The Cougars broke the game open with a nine-run fifth inning. Zosulis drove in four runs in the inning with a solo homerun and added a three-run homerun later in the inning. March drew a bases loaded walk to score a run in the inning, while senior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) singled in a run. Rullan drove in three runs with a double as the Cougars pulled ahead 13-1.

Caldwell added to their lead in the sixth as Brunson connected on a three-run homerun. Zosulis hit his third homerun of the game as he hit a three-run homerun in the seventh to help the Cougars pull away in the final innings.
Zosulis finished game two with three homeruns and eight RBI and went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Junior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) went 4-for-6 with four runs scored, while Rullan went 4-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored. Brunson turned in a 2-for-5 game two performance with four RBI and three runs scored.Â

Elias Negron (Virginia Beach, Va.) tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs (one earned) on six hits with five strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.

The Cougars host Thomas Jefferson University for a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, May 1 at noon at the Kiwanis Oval.
