Women’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Concordia in CACC Quarterfinals

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball sophomore Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) scored 19 points as the Cougars dropped a heartbreaker 48-46 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships Quarterfinals.
 
The Cougars end their season at 3-7 overall, while the Clippers improve to 6-4 and advance to Thursday's semifinal round.
 
Caldwell got off to a 12-2 lead as Brown drained a three-pointer in the run, while junior Shadajah Thomas (Plainfield, N.J.) netted four points. Concordia rallied to close the gap to three points at 18-15 early in the second quarter.
 
The Cougars extended their lead to eight points at 25-17 midway through the second quarter. Concordia closed to gap to 25-24 at halftime.
 
The Clippers took the lead in the third quarter and pushed their lead to 40-25 late in the quarter. The Cougars rallied back with a 21-6 run to tie the score late in the further quarter.
 
Brown tallied 14 points in the run including a three-pointer. Junior Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) drained a trifecta with 2:02 left in the game to cut the score to 46-45. Brown capped the run with a free throw at the 1:14 mark to pull even at 46.
 
The Clippers netted the game-winning basket with 0:00.3 seconds left in the game to take the win.
 
Brown led the way with 19 points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals. Thomas totaled six points, six boards and two steals, while senior Calimah Singletary (Spring Valley, N.Y.) netted five points and four rebounds in her final collegiate game.
