CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) netted 18 points as the Cougars rallied past Concordia College 55-46 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the CACC, while the Clippers fall to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped out to an early lead as sophomore
Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) drained a three-pointer late in the opening quarter. Dits added eight points in the opening quarter as the Cougars built a 15-9 lead.
Concordia battled back in the second quarter as they took a 21-20 lead with 1:10 left in the half. Brown and senior
Calimah Singletary (Spring Valley, N.Y.) added a pair of buckets in the final minutes to push the Cougars to a 24-21 at halftime.
The Clippers retook the lead and pulled ahead by six points late in the third quarter at 32-26 with 2:36 to play. Caldwell rallied back with a 9-3 run as junior
Shadajah Thomas (Plainfield, N.J.) netted four points in the rally. Brown drained a triple at the 9:26 mark of the fourth quarter to pull even at 35.
Concordia answered to retake a two-point lead but the Cougars ripped off the next 11 points to put the game out of reach. Thomas scored nine of Caldwell's points to pull ahead 46-37 midway through the fourth quarter. The Cougars maintained their lead down the stretch for their second straight victory.
Dits led the way with 18 points, five boards and three assists, while Thomas tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brown finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Cougars return to action as they host Nyack College on Sunday, February 14 at 1 pm in a CACC contest. The game will be streamed on the CACC Network at caccnetwork.com.
