MANSFIELD, Pa.- Caldwell University sprint football senior
Carl Watson (Newark, N.J.) scored three times as the Cougars capped their historic season with a 51-6 victory over Mansfield University in a Collegiate Sprint Football League North Division contest.

The Cougars set the program record in wins with five as the end their season at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CSFL North Division. Caldwell finished the season in second place in the division, which also marks a program best. The Mounties end their season at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in division play.

The Caldwell offense exploded for four touchdowns in the opening quarter as the Cougars defense forced a pair of early turnovers to provide the offense with the ball deep in Mansfield territory.

Senior
Anthony Guarino (Tinton Falls, N.J.) intercepted a Mountie pass on the second play of the game and returned to ball to the Mansfield eight-yard-line. Two plays later, Watson rushed into the end zone from a yard out to give Caldwell a 7-0 lead.

Sophomore
Messiah Porter (Rutherford, N.J.) recovered a fumble at the Mountie 20-yard-line on Mansfield's second offensive possession to set up the Caldwell offense again in Mountie territory. Watson hauled in a 14-yard reception to move the offense inside the 10-yard-line.
Watson found the end zone following back-to-back three-yard runs to extend the Caldwell lead to 14-0.

On Caldwell's third offensive possession of the quarter, junior
Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) found sophomore
Zaheir Mitchell (Wallington, N.J.) for a 51-yard pass connection to move the offense inside the 20-yard-line. Two plays later, DeMaio rushed into the end zone from 10 yards out and a 21-0 Caldwell lead.

Caldwell wrapped up their 28-point quarter as Watson capped 6-play, 60-yard drive with his third score of the game on the ground from five yards out.

The Cougars added to their lead in the second quarter as junior
Steven Rose (Montclair, N.J.) intercepted a Mansfield pass deep in Mountie territory. DeMaio rushed into the end zone for his second score of the day from 22-yards out.

DeMaio connected with freshman
Akhi Barksdale (Brick, N.J.) for a 35-yard touchdown in the air to push their lead to 42-0 to close out their first half scoring. Mansfield scored a late touchdown to cut the score to 42-6 at halftime.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Mitchell caught his second touchdown of the game on a 31-yard pass connection from freshman
Anthony Haines (Nutley, N.J.) midway through the fourth quarter. The Caldwell defense added a safety in the quarter to close out the scoring for the game.

The Caldwell offense rolled for 427 yards of total offense as DeMaio led the way with 14-of-25 passing for 208 yards and one touchdown. DeMaio added 29 yards on the ground and two scores. Mitchell finished with his best game of the season as he hauled in five receptions for 138 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore
Rahmeir McGraw (Prospect Park, N.J.) finished with nine carries for 35 yards.

Watson, one of the original players from the program's inaugural season in 2017, capped his career as the first player to achieve 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in program history. He finished the game with 16 rushes for 65 yards and three scores, while adding three catches for 23 yards. Watson ends his Caldwell career with 1,171 rushing yards and 1,010 receiving yards.

The Caldwell defense limited the Mounties to 254 yards of total offense and forced eight turnovers in the win. Guarino led the way with six tackles, one for loss and one interception. Rose added two interceptions as part of a six-interception day for the defense. Freshman
