STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- Caldwell University men's soccer junior
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal to lift the Cougars to a 2-1 win in double overtime over The College of Staten Island in their 2021 season finale.
The Cougars close out their 2021 season at 5-11-0, while the Dolphins fall to 3-11-2 overall.
The teams played a scoreless first half as Staten Island held an 11-7 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of play.
Caldwell got on the board late in regulation as junior
Chris Ferri (Parsippany, N.J.) gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead off an assist from senior
Kevin Avila (Newark, N.J.) in the 73rd minute. The Dolphins rallied back to even the score at 1-1 in the 80th minute to force overtime.
The teams battled through a scoreless first overtime period but the Cougars found the answer late in the second overtime. Vieira tallied game-winner with just over three minutes left in the second overtime off Avila's second assist of the game to send the Cougars to a victory to close out their 2021 season.
Freshman keeper
Dylan Valencia (Elizabeth, N.J.) got the start and recorded five saves in the first half. Sophomore
Jalen Folsom (Beachwood, N.J.) played the entire second half and both overtime periods, recording five saves to earn the win.
