CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team closed out their 2021 season on a high note as they notched a season-high 61 kills to outlast Felician University in a five-set thriller in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match.
The Cougars end their season at 3-23 overall and 3-14 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons fall to 10-18 and 8-8 in conference play.
Felician took the opening set 25-22 but the Cougars rallied from a 22-21 deficit in the second set to win 25-23 to even the match. Caldwell found themselves behind 21-19 in the third set but again rallied back to win 25-22 to push ahead 2-1 in the match. The Golden Falcons evened the match 25-21 win in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set.
In the fifth set, Felician jumped out in front 10-6 but the Cougars battled back to even the set at 10-10. The Golden Falcons pushed ahead 14-12 but Caldwell roared back with four straight points capped by a service ace from freshman
Karin Ojeda (Toms River, N.J.) to win 16-14 and end their season with a 3-2 win.
Sophomore
Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) notched a season-high 23 kills, five digs and three total blocks (two solo). Sophomore
Reese Sherwood (Salem, Ore.) posted a triple-double with 15 kills, 20 assists and 18 digs along with three service aces. Senior
Olivia Bellamy (Davison, Mich.) recorded 14 kills and three solo blocks in the win.
Senior
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) led the Cougars with 22 assists along with five digs, while senior
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) tallied 31 digs and 11 assists.
Graduate
Shayna Saltzman (Pine Beach, N.J.) finished with four kills, one ace, two block assists and 13 digs. Ojeda totaled 11 digs and three aces in the win.
