LANTANA Fla.- The Caldwell University baseball team dropped a twin bill to Stonehill College to open their 2020 season. The Skyhawks took the opening game 9-3 and won the nightcap 11-3.

The Cougars fall to 0-2, while the Skyhawks improve to 6-4.

In the opening game, senior
Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) went 1-for-2 with a two run triple in the third inning to account for two of Caldwell's runs. Freshman
Chris Coleman (Wayne, N.J.) tossed three innings, allowing four runs on three hits to take the loss.

Caldwell took the early lead in the nightcap as senior
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and scored the first run on the game later in the inning on a wild pitch. Rullan added a run-scoring double in the inning for a 2-0 lead.

Stonehill rallied with three runs in the third inning to pull ahead 3-2. The Cougars battled back in the fifth with sophomore
Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) drove in the game-tying run.

The Skyhawks opened the game up with an eight-runs sixth inning to push ahead 11-3.

Senior
Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) took the loss in relief, as he tossed 1 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits.

The Cougars continue their Florida swing as they travel to Lynn University for a non-conference game on Sunday, March 8 at 3 pm.
