Women's Soccer Opens 2019 With Pair of Games in West Virginia This Weekend

Overview
This Caldwell University Women's Soccer team travels to West Virginia for a pair of games to kick off their 2019 season. On September 6, the Cougars will play Fairmont State University, and on September 8, travel to Davis and Elkins College to conclude their season opening weekend trip.

Scouting the Cougars
Last season, the Cougars ended the regular season with an overall record of 12-7-1, and 8-3-1 in conference play. They defeated Holy Family in CACC Championship, to bring home their third conference title. The Cougars will be returning some key scorers that helped secured that championship.
 
Key Returners:
  • The Cougars are picked to finish in second place in the 2019 CACC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • Senior Meghan Grundhauser (Eason, Pa.) was a CACC First Team selection last season
  • as she led the Cougars with 32 points on 14 goals and four assists. She was selected as the CACC Tournament MVP and earned to the D2CCA Second Team All-Region honors
  • Junior Jordan Madrid (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was third on the team in scoring with 13 points on two goals and nine assists and earned CACC All-Tournament honors in 2018.
  • Junior Teaghan Darling (Forked River, N.J.) was a CACC Second Team selection and ECAC First Team All-Star last year. Darling totaled eight points on two goals and four assists.
  • Senior Katie Iannuzzi (Bloomingdale, N.J.) posted eight points on three goals and two assists last season.
  • Caldwell's top goalkeeper, sophomore Jamie-Lee Bamford (Braintree, England). Bamford was a CACC All-Tournament team selection in 2018 and played every minute in net last season, totaling 114 saves.
 
Scouting the Falcons
Fairmont State University finished their 2018 season with an overall record of 8-6-4, and 6-5-2 in conference play. They were voted runner-up in the 2019 MEC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Falcons will be returning four of its top five scorers from last season.

  • Forward, Abigail Johnson (Senior), earned (second team All-Mountain East Conference honors last season)
  • Forward, Katie Doyle (Senior)
  • Midfielder, Louise Welch (Junior), (MEC honorable mention)
  • Midfielder, Abigail Fowler (Sophomore)
  • Defender, Ella Wilson earned (second team All-MEC honors last season)
Scouting the Senators
The Senators ended the 2018 season with an overall record of 6-8-2. Davis and Elkins are ranked fourth picked fourth in the MEC South division. The Senators will be returning several players, which include three of their top performers.
 
Top Players
  • Senior midfielder Asheli Freed returns as the team's top scorer in 2018, notching six goals on 45 shots with three game-winners.
  • Sophomore midfielder Roxanne McFarlin (3G in 2018)
  • Sophomore midfielder Lisa Milliken (1G and 1A in 2018).
Next Up
After the weekend in West Virginia, the Cougars play their home opener against Molloy College, on September 18.
