PHILIPPI, W.V.- The Caldwell University sprint football team scored a program record 43 points in a 43-0 victory over Alderson Broaddus University in Collegiate Sprint Football League South Division play.

The Cougars improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in CSFL South Division, while the Battlers fall to 1-2 and 0-1 in South Division play.

Caldwell got off to a fast start as junior
Nysir Smith (Newark, N.J.) took the game's opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to put the Cougars up 6-0.

Armani Bermudez (Newark, N.J.) scored on a 37-yard rushing touchdown to extend their lead to

Caldwell added to their lead in the second quarter as freshman
Timothy Palmer Jr. (Hawthorne, N.J.) tossed a pair of touchdowns. Palmer connected with freshman
Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) on a 15-yard scoring play early in the quarter to cap a 7-play, 64-yard drive. Palmer tossed a 75-yard scoring strike to Smith to push Caldwell's lead to 27-0. Junior
Christian Cornelius (Woodland Park, N.J.) booted a 27-yard field goal just before halftime for a 30-0 lead at the break.

The Cougars tacked on a pair of scores in the second half as junior
Carl Watson (Newark, N.J.) scored on a 55-yard touchdown on the ground in the third quarter. Bermudez found the end zone for the second time on a 45-yard run.

Palmer tossed for 138 yard in the air on 7-for-10 passing. Bermudez posted back-to-back 100-yard games with 10 carries for 114 yards and two scores. Watson finished with nine carries for 69 yards and one score, while added two catches for nine yards. Smith hauled in two passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Junior
Jared Dockett (Bloomfield, N.J.) added two receptions for 41 yards, while DeMaio totaled two catches for 24 yards.

On defense, freshman
Joseph Mongelli (Wayne, N.J.) led the way with seven tackles, including 2.5 for losses. Freshman
Michael Lohrmann (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) added five tackles, including one sack, while junior
Royce Francisco (Passaic, N.J.) added four tackles and 0.5 sacks. Overall the Caldwell defense limited the Battlers to 55 yards of total offense.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 5 as they host the United States Naval Academy at 7 pm at James Caldwell High School.
