LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team lost their lone game on day two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships on Friday. The Cougars fell to #8 Jefferson 4-2 in an elimination game.
The Cougars fall to 32-23, while the Rams improve to 19-26.
Caldwell took the early lead with two runs in the first inning. Freshman
Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) drew a lead off walk and stole second. Sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) ripped a double to scored Conway with the first run of the game. Junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) added a two-out double to score Sandoval for a 2-0 lead.
The Rams battled back as they tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning. Jefferson took the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh and held on for the win.
Freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) took the loss as she tossed a complete game, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts.
The Cougars, ranked #8 in the latest NCAA Division II East Region poll, will await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Division II Softball selection show will be streamed live via ncaa.com on Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m.
