BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- Caldwell University women's lacrosse sophomore
Samantha Murphy (Pompton Plains, N.J.) tallied six points as the Cougars fell to the University of Bridgeport 21-10 in a non-conference game.
The Cougars fall to 1-4 overall, while the Purple Knights improve to 2-3.
Bridgeport score 10 goals to start the game as they built a lead midway through the opening half. Murphy netted Caldwell's first goal of the game at the 11:33 mark. Freshman
Jenna Steelman (Mays Landing, N.J.) added a goal later in the half for the Cougars as they trailed 13-2 at the break.
The Cougars tallied eight goals in the second half as junior
Arden Kassaleh (Pompton Plains, N.J.) netted a score at the 24:15 mark. Murphy and senior
Jessica Collum (Wayne, N.J.) added goals to help Caldwell cut the score to 16-5.
Caldwell added five goals later in the half as Kassaleh netted four, while Murphy posted one goal and two assists down the stretch.
Murphy led the way with three goals, three assists, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls. Kassaleh added five goals, and seven draw controls. Collum and Steelman each totaled one goal and one assist.
Freshman
Mia Monacelli (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) recorded seven saves in 42 minutes. Senior
Nancy Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) posted two saves in 18 minutes.
Caldwell travels to Molloy College on Friday, March 22 for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
