CLERMONT, Fla.- The Caldwell University softball team split a pair of games as the Cougars closed out their Florida trip on Sunday. The Cougars defeated American International College 10-0 in five innings and came up short to University of Minnesota Crookston 2-0.
The Cougars wrap up their spring break trip at 3-9 overall. The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-1, while the Golden Eagles improve to 7-10.
Caldwell scored eight runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth inning. Junior
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) drove in three runs in the win. Sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Freshman
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while freshman
Alaina Zavala (San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Junior
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to improve to 3-2.
Caldwell was limited to three hits in their 2-0 loss to Minnesota Crookston in the final game of their trip. Junior
Daniela Solis (Wilmington, Del.) posted the lone extra base hit with a seventh inning double.
Freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts. Bearden struck out the side in the seventh, retiring all three batters she faced.
The Cougars return to the Northeast as they open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on the road against Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday, March 21 at 2:30 pm.
