WORCESTER, Mass.- The Caldwell University men's basketball team fell to Assumption College 100-73 as they closed out play at the CACC/NE10 Conference Challenge.
The Cougars fall to 0-2, while the Greyhounds improve to 2-0.
Assumption jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the first three minutes of the game. Caldwell rallied back with a 12-2 run to pull ahead by five points. Sophomore
Anthony Cooper (Ashburn, Va.) converted a three-point play, while senior
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) drained a three-pointer in the run. Senior
Ruud Lutterman (Dalem, Netherlands) totaled six points and capped the run at the 14:08 mark to give the Cougars a 14-9 lead.
The teams traded leads throughout most of the first half as Lutterman's bucket at the 5:26 mark put Caldwell in front 28-27. Assumption closed out the half with a late run to pull ahead 45-28 at the break. The Greyhounds maintained their lead throughout the second half.
Cooper led the way with 13 points and three rebounds, while Lutterman totaled 12 points, two boards and three steals. Senior
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) tallied 10 points, two boards and two assists, while Ogoemesim finished with 10 points and five assists. Junior
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) posted 10 points and two boards.
The Cougars host Southern Connecticut State University in their home opener on Wednesday, November 13 at 7 pm.
