CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball senior
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) netted 14 points as the Cougars competed against Division I opponent St. Peter's University in an exhibition contest.
St. Peter's got out to a 16-6 lead over the first five minutes of the game. Caldwell battled back to trim the score down to 26-19 following a pair of Covington free throws at the 8:41 mark. The Peacocks answered to push their lead into double digits and led 46-30 at halftime.
Caldwell got off the a fast start in the second half as senior
Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) scored four points in the first minute. Senior
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) drained a triple and added two buckets to help Caldwell close the gap to 51-41 with 16:07 left in the game.
The Peacocks scored the next six points but Covington connected on a triple to trim the score to 11 points near the midway points. St. Peter's maintained their lead down the stretch.
Covington totaled 14 points, while junior
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) added 14 points and three boards. Johnson-Alford posted 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Ogoemesim chipped in nine points and three rebounds.
The Cougars travels to the Monmouth University Classic where they will face Division I opponent Norfolk State University on Tuesday, November 26 at 5 pm.
