CALDWELL, N.J- Caldwell University men's basketball junior
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) posted a double-double as the Cougars downed Post University 80-69 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 10-10 overall and 6-5 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 6-14 and 3-8 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the game as they build a 24-7 lead late in the first half. Junior
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) converted a three-point play on Caldwell's opening possession. Junior
Ruud Lutterman (Dalem, Netherlands) totaled six points in the run, while senior
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) drained a triple. Senior
Thomas Elliott-Smith (Plymouth, England) totaled four points and capped the run at the 8:57 mark of the first half.
The Cougars led by as much as 19 points in the half before Post closed the gap to 43-28 at halftime.
Kittles connected on a three-pointer to start the second half and added three free throws in the first three minutes. Ogoemesim drained a jumper to give Caldwell their largest lead of the game at 51-31 with 15:44 remaining in the game.
Post battled back as they trimmed the score down to 59-53 with 6:45 left in the game. Caldwell answered with a 12-4 run to extend their lead back into double digits. Sophomore
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) netted six points in the run. Kittles totaled five points and converted a three-point play at the 3:10 mark for a 71-57 lead. The Cougars held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Kittles posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) went 13-for-13 from the free throw line as he finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Dorme totaled 13 points and five boards, while Ogoemesim chipped in eight points and six rebounds. Elliott-Smith finished with seven points and eight boards.
The Cougars travel to Wilmington University for a CACC clash on Saturday, February 2 at 3:00 pm.
