CEDAR GROVE, N.J.- Caldwell University softball freshman
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) ripped a walk-off double to win the opener as the Cougars split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Wilmington University.

The Cougars move their record to 9-11 and 5-1 in the CACC, while the Wildcats stand at 19-11 and 7-3 in conference play.

The teams battled through three scoreless innings as both teams broke through in the fourth. Wilmington got on the board with a pair of runs in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Senior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk, while Rodriguez doubled to put runners at second and third. Junior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) singled in both runners to tie the score at two. The score remained tied through seven innings as the game headed to extra innings.

In the eighth, Monasseri singled to start the inning. Pinch runner
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Rodriguez's double.

Sophomore
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts to improve to 5-4.

In the second game, Wilmington scored five runs in the fifth inning and added one in the sixth to take the lead.

The Cougars rallied back in the seventh inning as senior
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) led off with a single. Sophomore
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) doubled with one out to put runners at second and third. Johnson scored on an error, while sophomore
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) doubled in two runs to cut the score to 6-3. Monasseri and sophomore
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) drew walks to load the bases. Testa drove in two runs with a single but the Cougars came up short of tying the game.

Johnston (4-7) pitched a complete game, allowing six runs (three earned) on 11 hits, while striking out six.
