Siscamanis Nets Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Rallies Past Post

WATERBURY, Conn.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) posted her first career double-double to help lead the Cougars past Post University 79-69 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
 
The Cougars, ranked #5 in the NCAA Division II East Region, improve to 23-4 and maintain their lead in the North Division with a 16-2 mark in the CACC. The Eagles drop to 7-17 and 6-12 in conference play.
 
Post jumped out to an early lead as they pulled ahead 22-11 late in the opening quarter. Caldwell rallied back with a 16-5 run that stretched midway into the second quarter. Senior Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) drained a pair of triples, while senior Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) added a pair of buckets. Senior Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) scored four straight points as the Cougars pulled even at 27 with 5:24 left in the second quarter.
 
The Eagles answered as they retook a 33-29 lead with just over two minutes to play. Caldwell closed out the half with a 9-0 run to take a five-point lead. Sophomore Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) drained a triple, while Siscamanis added a lay-up. Junior Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) scored just before the halftime buzzer as the Cougars lead 38-33 at halftime.
 
Post pulled even at 40 at the 7:39 mark of the third quarter but the Cougars responded with a 20-8 run. Siscamanis scored nine of Caldwell's points in the run, while senior Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) added five points. Drogsler capped the run with a free throw with 1:36 left in the quarter to take a 60-48 lead.
 
Caldwell pushed ahead by as much as 14 points early in the fourth quarter at 64-50. The Eagles got as close as six points down the stretch but the Cougars hit three free throws in the final minute to hold off Post.
 
Siscamanis turned in a career day with her first double-double. She tied a career-best with 17 points and set a new career high with 10 rebounds in the win. Drogsler totaled 17 points, three boards and four steals. Kelty chipped in 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sanders tallied 10 points, five boards, six assists and five steals.
 
Caldwell wraps up the regular season against Bloomfield College on Saturday, February 24 in a CACC match-up at 1 pm with the North Division title on the line. The Cougars will recognize its four seniors on Saturday as part of senior day.
