WEST HAVEN, Conn.- The Caldwell University men's basketball team fell to Southern Connecticut St. University 81-69 in a non-conference road contest.
The Cougars fall to 2-2, while the Owls improve to 2-4.
The Owls jumped out to a 13-5 lead over the first five minutes of the game. Caldwell trimmed the score down to three points midway through the half. Junior
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) netted four points, while senior
Thomas Elliott-Smith (Plymouth, England) and junior
Vaughn Covington (Sickerville, N.J.) each netted two free throws in the run. Sophomore
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) cut the score to 18-15 at the 10:31 mark.
Southern Connecticut extended their lead to double digits late in the half. Caldwell battled back as they trailed 41-32 at halftime.
Senior
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) netted a free throw and a bucket in the first two minutes of the second half to help the Cougars cut the score to 43-35. The Owls pushed their lead back into double digits for most of the half. Harrison's lay-up at the 6:58 mark sliced the score to 63-55 but the Cougars came up short.
Harrison led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ogoemesim chipped in 13 points, three boards and two steals. Covington posted nine points, while junior
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) led the team with seven rebounds.
The Cougars open conference play on the road as they travel to Post University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Wednesday, November 28 at 7 pm.
