CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team defeated Post University 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars improve to 7-2 and 2-0 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 3-8 and 1-1 in conference play.
Caldwell built a 22-8 lead in the opening set as they went on to win 25-15. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the second set as they pushed ahead 20-16. They won the second set 25-18. The third set featured a back and forth battle with neither team having more than a two-point lead. The Eagles pushed ahead 24-23 but the Cougars rallied back. Caldwell got back-to-back kills by senior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) and sophomore
Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) to put the Cougars in front 25-24. The same duo tallied a match-winning block to secure a 26-24 win in the set.
Janssen finished with 10 kills and three total blocks, while Stanechewski totaled four kills and two blocks. Senior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) chipped in eight kills and 10 digs, while senior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) netted 16 digs and two aces.
The Cougars tallied a season-high 16 service aces with senior
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) posting seven. Bennett added 13 assists, while junior
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) totaled 13 assists and three blocks. Freshman
Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) added three kills and seven digs, while sophomore
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) tallied five kills, two aces, four digs and six blocks.
The Cougars continue CACC play on Thursday, September 21 as they travel to Chestnut Hill College for a 7 pm match.
