OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.- The Caldwell University men's soccer team came up short 4-1 in a non-conference match against NYIT.
The Cougars fall to 1-3-1 overall, while the Bears improve to 3-2-0 on the season.
Caldwell took the early lead as junior
Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) netted his first goal of the season in the 14 minute of play. Junior
Italo Cardoso (Monroe, N.J.) earned his first assist of 2017.
The Bears answered in the 25th minute of play to even the score at 1-1. NYIT added a pair of goals in the final four minutes of the first half to lead 3-1 at the break. The Bears tacked on a goal late in the second half for the final score.
NYIT held the edge in shot 17-7 and corner kicks 9-1.
Freshman
Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) played 76+ minutes and recorded five saves. Sophomore
Anthony Tirri (Colonia, N.J.) posted one save over the final 13 minutes in net.
Caldwell hosts Molloy College on Wednesday, September 13 at 4 pm at Caldwell Field.
