Baseball Falls to Pace in Season Finale

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Caldwell University baseball senior Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 as the Cougars closed out the 2017 season with a 9-4 loss to Pace University. The Cougars end their season at 12-27, while the Setters improve to 26-16.
 
Pace got on the board in the first inning as they scored a pair of runs. Caldwell pulled evened in the second inning as Bernstein led off with a double. Freshman Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) followed with a walk to put runners at first and second. Both runners would advance bases and score on three wild pitches as the Cougars tied the score at 2-2.
 
The Setters retook the lead as they scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Caldwell rallied in the third inning as junior Paul Marinello (Freehold, N.J.) doubled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch. Senior Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) drew a walk and moved to second base. Junior Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, N.Y.) grounded out to score Marinello with Rivera advancing to third. Bernstein tied the game with a single to score Rivera.
 
Pace took the lead with three runs in the sixth and added two runs in the eighth inning to extend to a 9-4 advantage.
 
Senior Zach Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) tossed three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits.
Freshman Nick Cerbone (Bayonne, N.J.) pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits, while freshman Jason Salva (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) tossed two innings, allowing three unearned runs to fall to 1-4 on the season. Freshman Raymond Ramos (Bloomfield, N.J.) closed out the final inning, allowing two runs on three hits.
