ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.- The #16 Caldwell University softball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader against regionally ranked Molloy College. The Cougars are ranked at #3 in this week's NCAA D2 East Region poll, while the Lions came in at #5 in the region. Molly edged the Cougars in the opener 1-0 and rallied in the seventh to win game two 2-1.

The Cougars fall to 36-13 overall, while the Lions improve to 28-14 on the season.

Caldwell was limited to three hits in the opener as senior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, Fla.), junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) and senior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, N.J.) all had singles. Molloy got their run in the fourth on a solo homerun for the lone run of the game.

Senior
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) suffered her fourth loss of the season to fall to 23-4. She allowed one run on two hits and struck out 12 in a complete game effort.

In the nightcap, Monasseri put the Cougars in the lead with a solo homerun in the first inning, her ninth of the season.

The lead held up until the seventh when Molloy pushed a pair of runs across to take the win.

Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) fell to 9-6 on the season as she tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Ponto pitched 1/3 of an inning as she struck out one,
