WILMINGTON, Del.- Caldwell University softball senior
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) tossed a perfect game in a game one win as the #20 Cougars split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College. Caldwell took the opener 4-0, while the Lightning took the night cap 10-2 in five innings.

Caldwell moves to 28-11 overall and 19-1 in the CACC, while the Lightning end the day at 10-24 overall and 8-8 in conference play.

In the opener, junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) got a rally going with a two-out single in the first inning. Sophomore
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) tripled in Monasseri for the first run of the game. Freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) reached base on an error as Testa crossed the plate for a 2-0 Cougar lead.

The Cougars tacked on a pair of runs in the second inning as sophomore
Hannah Polak (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and sophomore
Katie Nichols (Acworth, Ga.) singled to put runners at first and third. Nichols stole second and Polak scored on a wild pitch. Senior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, Fla.) singled home Nichols as Caldwell pushed ahead 4-0.

That was all Ponto needed as she retired all 21 batters she faced in a complete game shutout effort. She improved to 19-3 on the season and finished the game with nine strikeouts. To watch the final out of Ponto's perfect game,

Caldwell got on the board first in the opening inning as Frye reached base on an infield single. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Monasseri double. Goldey-Beacom rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the first to take a 7-1 lead.

The Cougars added a run in the fifth as Frye doubled with one out. Freshman
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) singled in Frye for their second run of the game. The Lightning added three runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Sophomore
Alexa Toner (Mt Laurel, N.J.) allowed seven runs (five earned) on five hits, while freshman
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed 4 2/3 innings in relief, allowing three runs on eight hits.
