CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University softball senior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, Fla.) drove in four runs as the #20 Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Georgian Court University. The Cougars took the opener 3-2 and won the nightcap 10-2 in six innings.

Caldwell improves to 25-10 overall and 16-0 in the CACC, while the Lions fall to 10-24 overall and 7-9 in conference play.

The Cougars took the lead with two runs in the second inning of game one. Freshman
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) led off the inning with an infield single. Junior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) reached on an infield single and both runners moved into scoring position with groundout. Freshman
Kelle Lalier (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) singled to score two runs for a 2-0 lead.

Georgian Court tied the score in the third inning as they scored two runs. Caldwell took the lead in the sixth as Silva doubled with one out. She moved to third on a ground out and scored the go-ahead run on a single by sophomore
Katie Nichols (Acworth, Ga.).

Senior
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) improved to 16-3 overall as she tossed her 13th complete game of the season. She struck out nine batters and allowed two runs on five hits.

In the nightcap, Caldwell took advantage of a Lions' miscue in the second inning to score their first run of the game. The Cougars added four more runs in the inning as Frye and freshman
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) each has run scoring doubles. Junior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) blasted a two-run homerun, her fifth of the season, to put Caldwell up 5-0.

The Lions chipped away with three runs in the fourth inning to slice the score to 5-3. Caldwell pulled away in the fourth as Johnston singled and Silva drew a walk. The runners moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt. Nichols reached on an error to load the bases with one out. Following a pop out, Frye ripped a base clearing double to extend the lead to 8-2.

Caldwell added a run in the fifth and one more in the sixth inning as the Cougars took the nightcap in six innings.

Alexa Toner (Mt Laurel, N.J.) improved to 3-1 on the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out three.
