WATERBURY, Conn.- Caldwell University women's lacrosse sophomore
Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and freshman
Arden Kassaleh (Pompton Plains, N.J.) each netted six goals as the Cougars defeated Post University 20-10 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars even their record at 6-6 overall and improve to 4-3 in the CACC. With the win, Caldwell sets the single season program win record (five wins in 2016). The Eagles fall to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Post got on the board first as they tallied the first two goals of the game. Kassaleh netted two in a row for Caldwell less than a minute apart to even the score at 2-2. Post answered with two goals to go back in the lead at 4-2.
Caldwell rallied with five goals to pull ahead by three. Lucia and junior
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, N.Y.) netted goals to tie the game at 4-4. Junior
Mariah Wynn (Clearwater, Fla.) put the Cougars ahead 5-4, while Kassaleh added two goals to extend their lead to 7-4. The Eagles closed the gap to 7-6 with just over 10 minutes left in the opening half.
Wynn and Lucia kept the Cougars in front with a pair of goals as Caldwell pushed their lead to 9-6. Post netted a goal with a minute to play but Wynn tallied a late goal as Caldwell led 10-7 at halftime.
The teams traded goals early in the second half as Schenck and Lucia tallied goals to keep the Cougars up by three at 12-9. Caldwell ripped off eight unanswered goals over a 20-minute stretch in the half.
Lucia added three goals, while Schenck totaled two goals and one assist. Kassaleh chipped in two goals down the stretch, while sophomore
Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, N.Y.) added a goal.
In net, sophomore
Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) tallied 12 saves in net.
The Cougars host Holy Family University on Wednesday, April 19 at 4 pm in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Essex Valley School in West Caldwell.
