CALDWELL, N.J.- Seniors
Justin Brown (Jamaica, N.Y.) and
Christian Ejiga (Laconia, N.H.) turned in career games on senior night to help the Cougars power past Concordia College by a score of 90-65 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Cougars secure third place in the North Division and will travel to #2 from the South in Wilmington University in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals on Saturday.
Caldwell improves to 16-11 overall and lock up third place with an 11-8 record in the CACC. The Clippers end their season at 10-18 and 9-10 in conference play.
The Cougars came out firing to start the game as they opened up with a 21-5 lead at the 13:48 mark. Ejiga netted eight points, while Brown drained a triple and totaled five points in the run.
Caldwell extended their lead to 20 points as freshman
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) added a pair from downtown. Freshman
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) drained a triple at the 6:03 mark to put Caldwell up 35-15. The Clippers trimmed the score down to 12 points but the Cougars led 47-35 at halftime.
Concordia scored on their opening possession of the second half but the seniors again provided a spark for Caldwell. Brown drained two from downtown, while Ejiga added a bucket in the paint to extend the lead to 55-37.
Dorn added a three-point play and a triple early in the second half to keep the score at double-digits. Jennings added a pair of triples in the second half as the Cougars maintained their lead down the stretch to earn their third win in a row.
Brown shot 4-for-8 from the field and 3-for-7 from downtown as he finished with a career-high 11 points. Ejiga posted career-highs with 10 points and eight boards along with two assists and one block. Senior
Austin Woods (Milford, Conn.) totaled six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Jennings dropped in 18 points and six rebounds, while junior
Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) tallied 16 points, five assists and three rebounds. Covington totaled eight points, four assists and five rebounds, while sophomore
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) posted six assists and three steals.
The Cougars secured the #3 seed in the CACC North Division and will travel to #2S Wilmington on Saturday, February 25 in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals at 2 pm.
