Drogsler Drops in 24 Points to Lead Women’s Basketball Past Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) netted a game-high 24 points to lead the Cougars past Dominican College by a score of 68-45 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars improve to 17-4 overall and 12-1 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 8-15 and 8-6 in conference play.
 
Trailing 6-2 in the first minute, the Cougars closed out the opening quarter with a 15-4 run. Junior Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) chipped in a three-point play, while junior Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) drained a triple. Droglser added a three-pointer and drained a pair of free throws in the final minute to give Caldwell a 17-10 lead after the first quarter.
 
Caldwell pushed their lead to as much as 15 points late in the second quarter at 31-16. Sanders netted a pair of buckets, while sophomore Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) drained one from downtown. Drogsler connected on a pair of late free throws to extend the Caldwell lead to 33-19 at halftime.
 
The Cougars opened the second half with a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 25 points. Kelty connected on one from downtown, while Drogsler added six points to help Caldwell take control of the game. Dominican got as close at 16 points midway through the fourth quarter but the Cougars maintained their double digit lead to the final buzzer.
 
Drogsler led the way for Caldwell with 24 points, six rebounds and three assists. She shot 10-for-11 from the free throw line. Sanders chipped in 12 points, six boards, four assists and two steals. Kelly totaled six points and six rebounds, while freshman Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) tallied nine points. Lennon dished out four assists, while sophomore Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass) posted nine rebounds.
 
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 4 as they welcome Georgian Court University to the Newman Center. The women's game will tip-off at approximately 3 pm as part of Super Saturday. Caldwell Athletics will host their annual Make-A-Wish Basket Auction and Alumni Day.
