Dorn Tallies 17 Points in Men’s Basketball Loss to Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University men's basketball junior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) tallied 17 points in the Cougars 82-66 loss to Dominican College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars fall to 11-10 overall and 6-7 in the CACC, while the Chargers improve to 13-9 and 8-5 in conference play.
 
Dominican jumped out to a 25-9 lead with under 10 minutes to play in the opening half. The Cougars finished the half strong as Dorn netted eight points over the final five minutes to close the gap. Dorn connected on three jumpers, drained a triple and capped the rally with a free throw with four seconds left to cut the score to 31-23 at halftime.
 
The Chargers extended their halftime lead to 51-35 with 13:57 remaining in the game. Caldwell battled back as they took advantage of trips to the free throw line over the next seven minutes.
 
Freshman Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) connected on four free throws in the rally as the Cougars pulled to within seven points. Freshman Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) added a jumper and a trifecta to help Caldwell close the gap to 59-52 with 6:54 to play in the game. Dominican answered with a 7-1 run to extend their advantage and maintained the lead the rest of the way.
 
Dorn led the way with 17 points and five assists. Covington tallied 13 points, four boards, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, while freshman Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) totaled six rebounds. Jennings finished with 13 points and two steals.
 
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 4 as they welcome Georgian Court University to the Newman Center. The men's game will tip-off at 1 pm as part of Super Saturday. Immediately following the men's game, men's basketball alum Matt Stuart '94 will be inducted in the CACC Hall of Fame by conference commissioner Dan Mara. In addition, Caldwell Athletics will host their annual Make-A-Wish Basket Auction and Alumni Day.
