Dorn Nets 18 Points as Men’s Basketball Falls to Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball senior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) totaled 18 points as the Cougars came up short 90-80 to Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars fall to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Bears improve to 7-2 and 2-0 in conference play.
 
The teams came out shooting well as they traded leads over the first four minutes of play. Bloomfield pulled ahead 25-12 midway through the opening half.
 
Caldwell rallied back late in the half as they used a 26-13 run to pull even at 38. Sophomore Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) drained a pair from downtown, while Dorn also added a triple in the run. Sophomore Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) connected on a pair of free throws at the 3:20 mark to tie the game at 38.
 
The Bears retook the lead but Dorn answered with a triple with 2:16 left in the half to give the Cougars a 43-42 lead. Bloomfield answered with a bucket with just over a minute to play. Sophomore Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) drained a free throw and scored in the paint in the final minute as Caldwell led 46-44. The Bears drained a trifecta at the buzzer to take a one-point lead into halftime.
 
The score remained close into the second half as Caldwell trailed 60-59 with 11:46 left in the game. Bloomfield pushed ahead by 11 points at 77-66 with under six minutes to play.
 
The Cougars had one final run as they used a 10-2 run to trim the score down to three points. Dorn totaled two free throws and added a lay-up, while Ogoemesim and freshman Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) each drained two from the line. The Bears held off the Cougars late with a triple along with four free throws in the final two minutes to take the win.
 
Dorn led the Cougars with 18 points, six boards and three assists. Ogoemesim totaled 16 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Lutterman posted 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Covington finished with 10 points and eight assists. Dorme netted eight points and nine rebounds.
 
The Cougars host Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference clash on Saturday, December 16 at noon at the Newman Center.
