NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team saw its magical season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to the University of New Haven in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Championship.
The Cougars ends their season at 25-8, while the Chargers improve to 24-7 and advance to the East Region semifinals.
Caldwell fell behind early in the first set sets as they fell behind in the match 2-0 with 25-18 and 25-19 losses in the first two sets. The Cougars posted the first three points in the third set and led by as much as 10-6. New Haven battled back to tie the set at 12 and eventually pulled ahead 20-17. Caldwell closed to within 21-19 but ultimately fell in the set 25-20.
Sophomore
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) led the Cougars with nine kills and four blocks, while senior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) posted seven kills, one block and three digs.
Senior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) contributed five kills and 12 digs, while sophomore
Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) chipped in six kills. Senior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) netted 13 digs in the match.
