ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.- The Caldwell University women's basketball team shot 53% in the second half as the Cougars overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Molloy College 64-48 in non-conference action.
The Cougars improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Lions fall to 2-3.
The teams struggled shooting in the opening quarter with the Cougars taking a 9-6 lead.
Molloy opened the second quarter strong as they pulled ahead 22-14 with just over a minute left in the first half. The Cougars rallied down the stretch as sophomore
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) connected on a triple, while senior
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) added two free throws as Caldwell trailed 22-19 at halftime.
Caldwell battled back to start the third quarter to even the score. Junior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J) connected on a three-pointer early in the second half. Sanders added a triple at the 7:55 mark to tie the score at 27.
The teams traded leaded seven times with two ties over the final seven minutes of the quarter. The Lions drained a triple with under a minute to play as they took their final lead of the game at 39-38.
Lebron drained a triple with seconds left to give the Cougars a 41-39 lead after three quarters. Her three-pointer sparked an 18-5 run that lasted midway through the fourth quarter. Junior
Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.) scored six points, while Lebron added a three-pointer. Senior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) capped the run with a pair of jumpers to give Caldwell a 56-44 lead with 4:41 left in the game. The Cougars maintained a double digit lead to remain unbeaten.
Lebron shot 4-of-7 from downtown to finish with 14 points. Siscamanis totaled 14 points and three rebounds, while Sanders tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Drogsler chipped in 13 points, five boards and two assists, while Lennon posted five assists and three steals. Senior
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) led the team with nine rebounds, while adding six points and four assists.
The Cougars travel to the Sunshine State later this week for a pair of games at the Rollins College Tars Thanksgiving Classic. Caldwell takes on Florida Tech on Friday, November 24 at 2 pm. The Cougars wrap up their road trip against nationally ranked and host Rollins on Saturday, November 25 at 2 pm.
