Volleyball Downs Holy Family to Advance to Sunday’s CACC Championship Match

WILMINGTON Del.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team defeated Holy Family University 3-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Semifinals to advance to Sunday's championship final for a second consecutive season. The Cougars will face the Jefferson Rams in a rematch of the 2016 CACC Championship match.
 
The Cougars improve to 24-7, while the Tigers end their season at 21-10. Caldwell advances to their fourth CACC Championship final since the 2006 season.
 
Caldwell took the first two sets 25-19 and 28-26. Holy Family battled back to take the third set 25-14. The Cougars took the match with a 25-15 win in set four.
 
Senior Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) tallied 12 kills, 14 digs and three blocks in the win, while senior Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) chipped in 10 kills and seven digs.
 
Sophomore Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) posted seven kills and eight total blocks (one solo), while sophomore Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) contributed three kills and three blocks.
 
Freshman Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora, Colo.) added five kills, three digs and four blocks, while senior Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) led the Cougars with 16 digs along with four assists and two aces. Senior Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) recorded 16 assists and five digs, while junior Alyssa Ayala (Wantagh, N.Y.) totaled 10 assists and nine digs.
 
The Cougars and the Rams face each other with the CACC Championship on the line on Sunday, November 19 at noon on the campus of Wilmington University.
