Men’s Basketball Falls to Saint Rose

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- The Caldwell University men's basketball team fell to the College of Saint Rose 50-48 on the final day of the Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican College.
 
The Cougars fall to 0-5, while the Golden Knights improve to 4-1.
 
Caldwell got off to a fast start in the game as they pulled ahead by double digits midway through the opening half. Sophomore Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) connected on a jumper at the 10:54 mark to give the Cougars a 13-3 lead.
 
The Cougars led by as much as 12 points as sophomore Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.)  drained a triple to put Caldwell ahead 20-8 with 5:40 remaining in the half. Saint Rose battled back over the final five minutes but Caldwell held a 23-20 lead at halftime.
 
The Golden Knights opened the second half with a run over the first two minutes to take a 26-25 lead with a pair of free throws. The teams traded leads over the next five minutes as sophomore Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) put the Cougars in front 31-30 at the 13:56 mark.
 
Saint Rose scored eight straight points to take at 38-31 lead with 11:58 remaining in the game. Caldwell rallied with a 9-3 run to close the gap to one point. Freshman Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored four points, while senior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) capped the run with two free throws with 6:08 left in the game to cut the score to 41-40.
 
The Golden Knights pushed their lead to eight points at 50-42 with 1:37 left in the game. Caldwell netted three field goals in the final 1:20 but came up short in the final seconds.
 
Dorn totaled 11 points, while Ogoemesim tallied 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) chipped in eight points and eight boards, while Dorme finished with six rebounds. Sophomore Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) contributed seven points and five boards.
 
The Cougars travel to the Sunshine State for a pair of games next weekend. Caldwell takes on Palm Beach Atlantic University on Sunday, November 26 at 4 pm. The Cougars wrap up their Florida trip on Monday, November 27 as they face Nova Southeastern University at 6 pm.
