CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) became the 18th member of the Cougars 1,000 point club in Monday night's 89-56 victory over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars post their fifth win in a row to improve to 15-3 overall and remain unbeaten in CACC play at 10-0. The Eagles fall to 1-17 and 1-9 in conference play.
Drogsler joined the elite 1,000 point club at the 8:55 mark of the second quarter as she scored on a lay-up. She joined teammate
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, N.Y.) in the 1,000 point club as the senior scored her 1,000th point on November 30. Drogsler finished the night with 1,007 points, while Pilla currently sits at 1,145 career points.
The teams traded leads in the early going as Post evened the score at seven near the midway point of the opening quarter. The Cougars pulled away with a 19-4 run that stretched into the second quarter. Pilla, Drogsler, junior
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) and junior
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) each netted four points as Caldwell used a balanced attack to push ahead 26-11 at the 6:44 mark of the second quarter.
The Eagles trimmed the score down to eight points but Caldwell ripped off eight unanswered points. Pilla scored on a fast break, while Drogsler and sophomore
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) each connected from downtown to extend their lead to 36-20 late in the quarter. Caldwell led 42-26 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead into the second half as they earned their tenth conference victory of the season.
Pilla and O'Driscoll each finished with 14 points in the win. O'Driscoll added seven rebounds and two assists. Drogsler netted 11 points, four rebounds and five assists. Junior
Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) totaled 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Sanders tallied nine points, seven boards, nine assists and three steals. Lennon finished with 10 points and three assists, while sophomore
Rachel Simon (Wallkill, N.Y.) posted eight points.
Caldwell Athletics honored three Veterans of Foreign Wars at halftime of the women's game. Fred Urban and Len Rudin from the VFW Post 6255 along with Cheryl Turner from the VFW District 4 in Essex County were recognized for their dedicated service to the United States of America.
The Cougars host Stonehill College in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, January 24 at the Newman Center at 6 pm.
