Dorn Tallies 17 Points as Men’s Basketball Holds Off Post

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball junior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) tallied 17 points as the Cougars held off a second half rally to defeat Post University 70-62 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
 
The Cougars improve to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 7-11 and 6-5 in conference play.
 
Caldwell controlled the play in the first half as they limited the Eagles to 26.1% shooting. The Cougars shot 43.8% from the field as they built a 21-5 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the half.
 
The Cougars held their largest lead of the game at 35-15 with under a minute to play. Post drained a triple as time expired but Caldwell held a 35-18 advantage at halftime. Dorn led Caldwell with 11 points, while freshman Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) and senior Austin Woods (Milford, Conn.) each grabbed six first half rebounds.
 
Post rallied to start the second half as they cut the score to 46-40 with 8:51 left in the game. Caldwell answered as sophomore Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) hit two triples, while freshman Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) added a trifecta and two free throws to push the Cougar lead to 57-45 at the 4:25 mark.
 
The Eagles battled back to pull to within six points at 58-52 with 2:33 left in the game. Caldwell headed to the free throws in the final 2:15 and were able to capitalize as they went 12-for-12 down the stretch. Dorn connected on six free throws, while Harrison, Covington and freshman Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) each went 2-for-2 to thwart the Post comeback.
 
Dorn led the Cougars with 17 points, four boards and four assists in the win. Covington chipped in 15 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Harrison finished with 10 points. Lutterman totaled seven points and 11 boards, while Woods tallied six points, eight rebounds and four blocks.  

The Cougars travel to NYIT on Monday, January 23 for a non-conference match-up at 7 pm.
