Men’s Soccer Falls Short to East Stroudsburg

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to East Stroudsburg University 3-2. The Cougars fall to 4-4-1 overall, while the Warriors improve to 4-3-1.

Caldwell got on the board in the ninth minute as a Cougar cross attempt was deflected into the next for an own goal and a 1-0 lead for the home team. The lead held up until the halftime buzzer despite a Warrior 7-1 shot advantage.

East Stroudsburg notched a pair of goals early in the second half to take the lead. The Warriors tied the game in the 52nd minute and pushed into the lead two minutes later.

The Cougars pulled even in the 66th minute to tie the score at 2-2. Junior Sam Odell (Walton-on-Hudson, England) booted in a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box as the Cougars evened the score.

The Warriors took the lead less than a minute later for a 3-2 advantage. The Cougars totaled several shots down the stretch including one in the final minute but came up short of tying the game.

Freshman Anthony Tirri (Colonia, N.J.) totaled three saves in 90 minutes in his first collegiate action of the season.

The Cougars continue with their final non-conference contest of the season as they travel to Millersville University on Thursday, September 29 at 6 pm.
