LAKEWOOD, N.J.- Sophomore
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, NJ) homered twice as the #21 Caldwell University softball team swept a doubleheader against Georgian Court University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. Caldwell took the opener 12-4 and won the nightcap 11-3 both in six innings.
The Cougars up their mark to 18-10 overall and 13-3 in the CACC, while the Lions fall to 5-27 and 4-10 in conference play.Â
Caldwell built an early lead with nine runs in the opening inning as junior
Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL) connected on a two-run double in the inning. Junior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL) added a two-run single to help Caldwell built a commanding lead. Frye added a third inning solo homerun as the Cougars cruised to a game one victory.
Senior pitcher
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA) tossed four innings to earn her 10
th win of the season. Padilla (10-2) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out two in four innings of work. Freshman
Alexa Toner (Mt. Laurel, NJ) pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out one.
In the nightcap, Monasseri connected on a pair of homeruns and drove in five runs in the win. She hit a three-run homerun in the first inning, while adding a two-run shot in the third inning. Caldwell added to their lead in the fourth as senior
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL) drove in a pair with a double, while senior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA) added a run scoring single.
The Cougars tacked on run in the final two innings as Sullivan blasted a solo homerun in the fifth, while sophomore
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, CA) drove in two with a single in the sixth.
Junior pitcher
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ) evened her record at 7-7 as she tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on three hits and struck out six batters.
The Cougars host Bloomfield College on Monday, April 11 for a CACC doubleheader at 2:30 pm.
