LAKEWOOD, N.J.- Sophomore
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, NJ) blasted a homerun to guide the Cougars to a win but the #15 and top seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Caldwell University softball team fell in an elimination game 1-0 to Bloomfield College in extra innings.
Caldwell edged #6 Concordia 3-2 in their opening game of the day but was eliminated from the CACC Championship with a 1-0 loss to Bloomfield in eight innings.
The Cougars move to 35-13 on the season, while the Clippers ended their season at 19-17. The Bears improved to 25-23 and advanced in the CACC Championship

Junior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ) and senior
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ) singled to get the Cougars going in the opening inning. Monasseri blasted a three-run homerun to put the Cougars on the board at 3-0.
The Clippers closed the gap with two runs in the second inning, cutting the score to 3-2.
Junior pitcher
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ) (17-7) took over from there, allowing four hits in the game, striking out six in the victory.
Game #12 Bloomfield 1, Caldwell 0 (8 innings)
Both pitchers matched a scoreless game through seven innings as the game went into extra innings. Bloomfield's Kirsten Wilson and Caldwell senior pitcher
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA) tossed combined to allow six hits in the game.
Wilson's RBI single in the eighth proved to be the difference in the game. Caldwell senior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA) posted the Cougars' lone hit with a single in the second inning.
Padilla (17-5) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on five hits and struck out two.
Ponto and Monasseri were both named to the CACC Championship All-Tournament Team.
The Cougars, the East Region's top team in this week's poll, will await a possible at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. The selection show will be streamed live on ncaa.com on Monday, May 2 at 10 am. Â Â Â Â Â
