WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore
Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY) totaled five points as the Caldwell University women's lacrosse team came up short to Chestnut Hill College 11-9 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Cougars fall to 5-8 and 5-4 in the CACC, while the Griffins improve to 10-5 and 8-0 in conference play.
Chestnut Hill jumped out to an early lead as they built a 3-1 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Fey scored the lone goal early for the Cougars.
Caldwell answered with a pair of goals as Fey and sophomore
Mariah Wynn (Clearwater, FL) evened the score at 3-3 near the midway point of the first half. The Griffins netted two late goals as they took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
Freshman
Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, NY) closed the gap early in the second half to help the Cougars cut the score to 5-4. Fey netted her third goal of the game, while freshman
Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) scored off the draw control 14 seconds later to put Caldwell in the lead at 6-5 with 22:07 left in the game.
The Griffins pulled evened four minutes later but Lucia netted a goal to give the Cougars a 7-6 lead with 12:17 to play in the game. Chestnut Hill netted three unanswered goals as they pulled ahead 9-7 at the 5:04 mark.
Caldwell rallied back as Fey netted a goal and assisted on the game-tying goal by sophomore
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY) with 3:13 remaining in the contest.
The Griffins netted a pair of goals in the final 97 seconds including one as time expired to take the win.
Fey led the Cougars with four goals and one assist, while Lucia netted two goals. In net, freshman
Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, NJ) recorded 15 saves.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season as they host Mercy College on Wednesday, April 27 at 4 pm.
