Game Recap: Softball |

Padilla, Testa Power #17 Softball to Sweep against Felician

CALDWELL, N.J.- Senior Amber Padilla (Chino, CA) tossed a shutout in the opener, while freshman Carly Testa (Sicklerville, NJ) blasted a grand slam in the nightcap to lead the #17 Caldwell University softball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twin bill sweep against Felician University.

The Cougars took the opener 3-0 and complete the sweep with a 4-3 win in the nightcap. Caldwell improves to 29-11 overall and 21-3 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons fall to 15-29 and 8-16 in conference play.

The game was scoreless until the fifth as junior Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. She stole third and scored as the catcher's throw sailed into the outfield for a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, senior Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ) led off with a single and scored on a two-run homerun by sophomore Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, NJ), who leads the conference with 14.

Padilla (15-3) tossed a two-hit shutout as she blanked the Golden Falcons to earn the win. Monasseri and Reighn both had two hits in the opener for Caldwell.
In the nightcap, the Cougars did their damage in the opening inning as they loaded the bases with one out. Testa blasted her fourth homerun of the season for a grand slam and a 4-0 lead. Felician chipped away with a run in the third and two in the sixth but junior Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ) closed the door for the win.

Ponto (13-7) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out five in the win. Testa went 2-for-3 for the Cougars in the nightcap.

The Cougars host Molloy College in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 22 at 2:30 pm.
