CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team fell to Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader. The Chargers took the opener 3-0 and won the nightcap 6-0.
The Cougars fall to 7-13 overall and 3-7 in the CACC, while the Chargers improve to 9-19 and 3-5 in conference play.
In the opener, junior
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, NJ) went 3-for-4 with a stolen base as the Cougars were held to five hits in the game. Senior starter
Job Gribbin (Westfield, NJ) fell to 2-3 on the season as he tossed 8 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out two. Sophomore
Christopher Cerf (Ramsey, NJ) retired both batters he faced in the ninth.
In the nightcap, Caldwell was held to three hits as Rivera and seniors
Dominick Orlando (Manalapan, NJ) and
Mike LaTorraca (West Caldwell, NJ) all posted hits for the Cougars.
On the mound, junior starter
Chris Gehrsitz (Jackson, NJ) went 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and struck out one. Freshman
Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, NJ) struck out four in 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit. Freshman
Anthony Tornatore (Fairfield, NJ) tossed 2/3 of an inning, allowing two runs on one hits, while sophomore
Joshua Caba (Belleville, NJ) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and registered four strikeouts.
The Cougars travel to Pace University for a non-conference clash on Tuesday, April 12 at 3 pm. Â
