RUTHERFORD, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team got a pair of strong pitching performances but fell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader to Felician University 2-0 in the opener and 1-0 in 10 innings in the nightcap.
The Cougars fall to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons improve to 14-13 and 6-0 in the conference.
In the opener, the game was dominated by pitching as Caldwell senior starter
Job Gribbin (Westfield, NJ) tossed seven strong innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out nine. Felician starter Jason Polgano tossed a complete game effort, allowing four hits and registers eight strikeouts.
Sophomore
William Levier (Monroe Township, NJ) collected two of the Cougars four hits as he went 2-for-3 with a sixth inning double.
Pitching was also the story in the night cap as Cougar junior starter
Chris Gehrsitz (Jackson, NJ) tossed night shutout innings, scattering five hits and struck out five. Felican starter Matt Blandino matched Gehrsitz as he tossed all 10 innings, allowing three hits and struck out 14 for the Golden Falcons. Felican scratched out a run in extra innings to take the nightcap.
The Cougars travel to Philadelphia University for a CACC doubleheader against the Rams on Saturday, April 2 at noon. Â
