Drogsler Posts Back to Back Double-Doubles as #13 Women’s Basketball Downs Southern Connecticut

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) posted her second consecutive double-double as the #13 Cougars defeated Southern Connecticut St. University 67-55 in non-conference action.  
 
The Cougars up their mark to 10-2 on the season, while the Owls drop to 5-7.
 
Caldwell jumped out to an eight point lead midway through the opening quarter. Drogsler drained a pair of triples, while sophomore Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) also hit a three-pointer to put the Cougars up 13-5. The Owls trimmed the score down to three points but Caldwell rallied over the final three minutes.
 
Junior Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) connected on a pair of lay-ups late in the quarter. Junior Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) went 2-of-2 at the line with just over a minute to play as Caldwell led 22-13 after one quarter.
 
The Owls connected on two triples early in the second quarter as they closed the gap to 26-22 at the 4:28 mark. Caldwell finished the first half on an 11-2 run to lead by double digits at halftime. Drogsler and Lennon each connected on a trifecta in the final four minutes. Drogsler went 1-of-2 at the free throw line in the final seconds. She rebounded her missed free throw and tipped it in for a 37-24 Caldwell lead at the break.
 
Caldwell extended their lead to 15 points early in the second half after a Kelty triple at the 8:30 mark. Southern Connecticut netted the next nine points as they cut the score down to six points at 41-35 with 6:24 to play in the third quarter.  
 
The Cougars took control of the game with a 15-2 run to close out the third quarter. Senior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, N.Y.) hit two free throws on the ensuing possession, while Kelty's lay-up with 4:56 on the clock extended the lead to 10 points.
 
Drogsler and Lennon each drained a triple in the run. Drogsler's lay-up with under a minute to play pushed the lead to 56-37 heading to the fourth quarter. Caldwell led by as much as 19 points in the final quarter and held a double-digit lead to the final buzzer.
 
Drogsler's second double-double of the season led the way for the Cougars. She finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while draining four triples. Kelty totaled 14 points and four boards, while Lennon chipped in 12 points, six boards and five assists. Junior Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, Mass.) netted seven points, five rebounds and two steals, while Pilla contributed eight points.
 
The Cougars are off until after Christmas as they host Molloy College on Thursday, December 29 at noon at the Newman Center
