PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Senior
Billy McDonald (North Haven, CT) joined the 1,000 point club on Saturday afternoon after totaling 16 points in a loss to Holy Family University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
The Caldwell University men's basketball fell to the Tigers 89-71 as the Cougars fall to 6-14 overall and 4-9 in the CACC. Holy Family improves to 16-4 and 11-1 in conference play.
The teams traded points early but Holy Family built a 22-7 lead near the midway point of the opening half. The Cougars battled back to cut the score to nine points at 23-14 with 7:39 left in the half. The Tigers extended their advantage and held a 41-27 lead at halftime.
The Cougars shot 46.2% from the field in the second half but the Tigers maintained their lead into the second half.
McDonald's milestone came at the 12:28 mark of the second half as he connected on a jumper. He joins teammate senior
Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ), who reached the 1,000 point club earlier this season. McDonald becomes the 18th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau and finished the game with 1,005 career points.
For the Cougars, McDonald led the way with 16 points and six rebounds. Lighty totaled 11 points and seven boards, while freshman
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, NJ) chipped in 11 points and four boards.
The Cougars return home to the Newman Center on Wednesday, February 3 as they face Nyack College in a CACC North Division clash at 8 pm.
