MANCHESTER, N.H.- Senior
Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, N.J.). netted an early goal for Caldwell but the Cougars dropped their season opener 2-1 in double overtime to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen.
Piccirillo broke a scoreless tie in the 35th minute as she scored from 10 yards out off a corner kick by
Randall Stafford (Redwood City, Calif.). The Penmen tied the score early in the second half as they netted the equalizer in the 52nd minute of play.
The team battled to a tie through regulation and headed to overtime. Caldwell took four shots in the extra periods but the Penmen scored the game-winner with 65 seconds left in the second overtime period.
In net, freshman
Mary Kanzler (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded seven saves in 90 minutes of play as she earned the start in her first collegiate game.
The Cougars travel to Franklin Pierce University on Sunday, September 6 at 2 pm.
