Men’s Soccer Picked Sixth in CACC Preseason Coaches Poll

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University Men's Soccer team was picked to finish in sixth place by the 13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference coaches in its preseason poll. The Cougars are coming off a 13-6 season in 2014 and posted an 8-4 record in the CACC, finishing in fourth place and reached the semifinals of the CACC Championship.

The Cougars under fourth year Head Coach Asgeir Ofstad looks to build on last season's success as they totaled 24 points in the CACC in 2014, good for a fourth place finish. Caldwell defeated #5 seed in the CACC Quarterfinals 1-0 before falling to eventual champion Philadelphia University in the semifinals.

The Cougars return their key players from last season including goalie Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ). The senior captain was a CACC First Team All-Conference selection as well as an ECAC Second Team All-Star. Hartmann led the conference in saves with 128 and posted the second best save percentage with a .805 mark. His 1.69 goals against average was eighth best in the CACC.

Also back for the Cougars are senior captains Christian Castro (Clifton, NJ) and Evan Marques (Linden, NJ). Castro was the leading scorer for Caldwell last season as he totaled 23 points and was tied for the team led with 10 goals. He was tied for sixth in the CACC in goals and tied for fifth in goals. He netted his lone game-winning goal of the season in a late season victory over Georgian Court.

Marques returns as one of the top defenders for the Cougars in 2015. He totaled four points last season on one goal and a pair of assists. His lone goal of the season was the game-winning goal in a September 1-0 victory over Molloy College.

Defending champ Philadelphia University was picked to repeat as CACC champions with Wilmington University, Dominican College, Post University and Concordia College rounding out the top-five selections.
