CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University baseball team lost a non-conference game to Bloomfield College, 4-2 Thursday afternoon at the Kiwanis Oval. The Cougars are now 3-17 overall, while the Bears improve to 3-18.
Bloomfield took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the third, senior
Anthony Caruso (N. Babylon, NY/N. Babylon) singled to score freshman
Noah Clark (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East). Then in the fifth, Caruso's sacrifice fly plated sophomore
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, NJ/St. Joseph) to tie the score at 2-2. Bloomfield took the lead on an RBI single by Harry Montero in the top of the sixth, and Juan Reina hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth.
Freshman left-hander
Christopher Cerf (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four in 5 2/3 innings. Rivera went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored for Caldwell.
The Cougars continue Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a doubleheader at Concordia College on Saturday, Apr. 11. The first game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
