WATERBURY, Conn. – Caldwell University senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) racked up 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 107-61 triumph over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night at the Drubner Center. Caldwell moves to 14-10 overall and 11-4 in league play with the win, while the Eagles drop to 5-19, 5-10 CACC.
The Cougars started fast and never looked back, opening the game with a 22-5 run over the first three minutes. Caswell scored eight points in the run, with sophomore guard
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) hitting two three-pointers. After Caldwell pushed the lead to 41-18, Post used a 14-4 spree to cut the deficit to 45-32 with 4:20 left in the half. But the Cougars made a statement at the end of the half with eight straight points, including six from Caswell, to make the halftime score 53-32. Caswell had a double-double before halftime with 17 points and 10 rebounds, with Pilla making three three-pointers en route to 13 points.
The Eagles were able to come as close as 13 points by opening the second half with a 13-5 run that made the score 58-45 with 14:45 remaining. But Caldwell quickly regained control by draining threes, including three treys apiece from junior guard
Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) and freshman guard
Lauren DiFabrizio (Encinitas, CA/La Costa Canyon) that helped extend the lead to as many as 48 points. The Cougars shot a season-best 51.9 percent from the field for the game while making 10-of-20 from beyond the arc.
The 107-point offensive performance marked the highest output since a 108-52 win over Goldey-Beacom College back in January of 2005.
Caswell shot 10-of-13 from the field on the way to her Division II-leading 19th double-double of the season. Pilla finished with 15 points, junior forward
Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had 12 points, and Angelo and freshman forward
Maura Kelty (Barrington, RI/Barrington) tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively. DiFabrizio notched her career high with nine points, and freshman guard
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY/Christ the King) had a solid all-around game with seven points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Deaisia Acklin led Post with 15 points.
