Box Score NYACK, N.Y.- The Caldwell University men's basketball team lost their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game 85-67 to the Nyack College Warriors.
The Cougars fall to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Warriors improve to 3-3 and 1-1 in conference play.
Nyack took an early 13-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Cougars rallied back as they took a two-point lead at the six minute mark. Caldwell connected on back to back triples as sophomore
Tyler Drews (Old Bridge, NJ) drained a three at the 7:04 mark, while freshman
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, NJ) put the Cougars ahead 26-24.
The Warriors scored the next seven points to retake the lead at 31-26 at the 4:05 mark. Caldwell battled back as Ogeomesim tied the game at 33 with under 30 seconds on the clock. Nyack got a late hoop to hold a two point lead at halftime.
Caldwell rallied to start the second half as senior
Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ) drained to triple at the 13:57 mark to pull the Cougars to within three points at 46-43. Nyack added to their lead as they pushed their lead to 17 points at 65-48 at the 7:38 mark. Senior
Salvatore Vitello (Bridgewater, NJ) connected on a three, while Lighty scored six points as the Cougars got as close at eight points down the stretch at 66-58 with 5:20 left in the contest. The Warriors pushed their lead back to double digits and led the rest of the way.
For the Cougars, Lighty led the way with 15 points, while Vitello chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Drews finished with seven points and six boards, while sophomore
Bernard Brantley (Stratford, CT) totaled seven points.
The Cougars travel to Dominican College on Saturday, December 5 for a CACC clash against the Chargers at 1:30 pm.
